Qualifications:           

 

     1. Hold a Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision.

  1. Have had at least three years of successful teaching experience.
  2. Have a thorough understanding of school operations.
  3. Possess strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  4. Have the ability to coordinate campus support operations, including athletics.
  1. Have ability to make decisions and handle sometimes stressful situations.
  2. Previous experience as principal or assistant principal preferred.

Job Description:         The High School Principal provides for the orderly operation of the school in accordance with policies established by the local School Board and the State Board of Education. The principal will also oversee the administration of instructional programs and campus-level operations, including athletics. In addition, the principal will coordinate student activities and services and perform duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

 

Salary Range:             Dependent on education and experience as a principal.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

  1. Sets the vision and strategic direction for the school.
  2. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative instructional programs.
  3. Tracks student progress, analyzes test scores, and identifies areas where students may need additional support.
  4. Promotes the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
  5. Promotes a positive, caring climate for teaching and learning.
  6. Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with students, staff, and parents.
  7. Supervises and administers school discipline, including bus discipline, and ensures related record keeping as necessary.
  8. Assists in assigning pupils to classes, programs, and activities designed to promote maximum learning.
  9. Provides direct instructional supervision and assistance to teachers.
  10. Provides for the health and safety of all students, including conducting safety drills, arranging for bus duty, monitoring the safety of buildings, creating an anti-bullying climate, etc.
  11. Monitors student and staff attendance.
  12. Observes and evaluates teachers and other high school staff members.
  13. Institutes a process for securing substitutes for teachers.
  14. Allocates available financial resources effectively, ensuring that the school is operating within its budget.
  15. Works with law enforcement officers, probation counselors, and other officials to ensure that the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia are enforced at school.
  16. Assists in planning a quality summer school program.
  17. Establishes and maintains sound business practices and procedures.
  18. Plans and conducts activities to improve school-community relations.
  19. Works with the Athletic Director to monitor and coordinate the athletic program.
  20. Manage the day-to-day activities of the school, including assisting with facility maintenance and logistics.
  21. Completes other duties as assigned by the superintendent.

 

Evaluation:                 Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy.
