Qualifications:           

 

     1.  Has minimum of RN license.

     2. Possesses current First Aid and CPR certification.

     3. Has previous nursing experience.

     4. Has knowledge of public health nursing as it applies to the public school system.

     5. Is able to perform all duties of Staff Nurse I, which may require lifting or bending.

     6. Possesses such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent deems appropriate and acceptable.

     7. Is able to pass the background check.

 

Reports to: Building Principal and/or Director of Special Education

 

Job Description: The nurse will promote and assist with the medical welfare of the students so that all may perform to the extent of their abilities. With this goal in mind, the nurse will provide outreach to monitor and referrals to aid students in getting caught up in their immunizations, including COVID-19 vaccinations.  

 

Salary: On the Teacher salary scale, dependent on experience

 

Schedule: School hours; somewhat flexible to allow for attending some night events for outreach.

 

Performance Abilities:

 

  1. Administers medicines as prescribed by doctor.
  2. Maintains secure storage of all medications.
  3. Administers first aid as needed; oversees general health needs.
  4. Administers or assists with treatments needed by students, which may include catheterizations, tube feedings, and nebulizers as prescribed by doctor.
  5. Assists with various screenings.
  6. Checks blood pressures and temperatures of staff and students as needed.
  7. Maintains infection control procedures.
  8. Maintains health records, which includes maintaining an accurate log of medication given daily and log of students seen and treatments given daily.
  9. Fills out necessary accident reports.
  10. Reports to principal any medical situations that might affect the overall wellbeing of individuals or the school as a whole.
  11. Visits classrooms to provide information regarding the importance of vaccinations.
  12. Assists in calling home when students are absent to determine reasons for absences and encourage vaccinations.
  13. Works with the local pharmacy to set up vaccination clinics for students, staff, and families.
  14. Educates families at events such as Back to School nights, after-school activities, and parent/teacher conferences.
  15. Makes information available to counter misinformation regarding vaccinations.
  16. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  17. Models and maintains high ethical standards.
  18. Performs other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position as directed by supervisor.
  19. Documents all trainings, parental contacts, and activities related to the grant.

 

 

NOTE:  This is a grant funded position and may not extend beyond the length of the grant, which is March 31, 2025.
