Job Description:         

 

The agriculture education teacher will be employed to teach agricultural education courses offered by the local district and the Virginia Department of Education, division of Career and Technical Education. The agricultural education instructor will assist and supervise students in developing Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) as well as serving as the advisor of the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter. The agriculture instructor is encouraged to promote and offer adult education to the community as needed.

 

Contract Status:          10-month teacher contract

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

  1. Utilize a variety of effective professional teaching techniques and methods to assist students in attaining the performance objectives of the agriculture program.
  2. Develop and implement lessons to teach skills required to master basic skills in agricultural classes.
  3. Provide immediate supervision to all students enrolled in agriculture classes.
  4. Write and maintain agriculture curriculum.
  5. Organize and lead the FFA.
  6. Complete and/or assist with all reports/clerical work, including but not limited to grades, attendance, hours of training provided students with related skills achieved, state reports, and all accounts.
  7. Prepare students for entry-level employment, advanced training, or career advancement.
  8. Prepare students for industrial certifications and internships wherever possible.
  9. Attend staff meeting, department meetings, and professional development opportunities as required.
  10. Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
  11. Assist in the preparation of a budget for the agriculture program each year.
  12. Assist in the recruitment of students for the program.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

 

Evaluation:     Performance of this job will be evaluated according to division guidelines.
