QUALIFICATIONS:          

 

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age to substitute in grades Pre-K-6 and at least 21 years of age to substitute in grades 7-12.
  2. Must possess a high school diploma.
  3. Must have teaching capabilities in all areas and be able to follow oral and written directions.
  4. Must have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
  5. Must have the ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.
  6. Must be able to pass an employee background check.
  7. Associate degree or above preferred.
  8. Prior experience as substitute teacher, school volunteer, or employee in

     educational/institutional setting preferred.

  1. Must attend orientation to school policies and procedures.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

A Substitute Teacher teaches and supervises students in the event that their regular teacher is unable to lead class. Duties include managing classroom behavior, quickly interpreting lesson plans, and creating reports to inform the students' permanent teacher of their success.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow lesson plans left by the permanent teacher.
  • Demonstrate basic teaching capabilities in all subject areas.
  • Demonstrate excellent communications skills.
  • Address the various learning styles of students.
  • Implement strategies, activities, and techniques for promoting quality student performance in both academic and social behavior.
  • Effectively follow an individual program plan for students with special needs as indicated by a lesson plan.
  • Create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students.
  • Demonstrate fair and ethical judgements.
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management strategies.
  • Display problem solving, cooperative negotiating skills, and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Use classroom instructional time appropriately and wisely as outlined by the lesson plan provided.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student information.

 

SALARY:  Salary is dependent on educational background.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy.
